Sundays River Valley Municipality (SRVM) won second place at the 2022 National Arbor City Awards in the Local Municipality category.

SRVM Mayor Councilor Simphiwe Rune described this as a milestone for the municipality.

“This award has come at the right time as we have just launched the SRVM Clean and Green campaign, and before that we were planting trees in almost all of our schools in conjunction with the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment” , Rune said.

“We are very excited and aiming to take first place next time,” he added.

Rune applauded all the teams and stakeholders who helped make this possible.

The Mayor was invited to collect the prize during the launch of the Month of the Tree 2022 which will be held in Mbombela on September 1, 2022.

The National Arbor 2022 Campaign will be used as a platform to highlight the Ten Million Trees program announced by the Office of the President and to reward municipalities that are already having an impact on the implementation of this program through the National competition. Arbor City Awards.
