The Provincial Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) progress report revealed that the local municipality of Mohokare and the municipality of Nketoana have yet to begin their investigations. The Municipality of Mohokare is accused of using fraudulent invoices for the restoration: purchase of properties and also payment of ghost employees. Nketoana Municipality has another case heard in court and two cases are being investigated by the Hawks. Nketoana’s chief financial officer (CFO) was also sacked.

The Select Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Water and Sanitation has previously raised concerns about the backlog of cases of alleged irregularities within municipalities. This includes the case of the municipal manager of the local municipality of Ngwathe who is accused of raising his salary and approving a one-time payment for himself.
Two cases are still under investigation in Matjhabeng municipality in Welkom. The report revealed that salaries worth R3,508,268 had been paid into incorrect accounts. The municipality also lost over R15,000,000 in a storm water system project in Nyakallong, Allanridge which never started.
As a result of these investigations, a number of civil servants have already been suspended. These include the two municipal directors of the municipalities of Dihlabeng and Masilonyana, and the financial director of the municipality of Maluti-A-Phofung. A municipal manager of Kopanong Municipality and CEO of Lejweleputswa Development Agency is also serving suspensions.
